From the moment 23-year-old Czech immigrant Joseph Bulova set up shop in New York in 1875, the name Bulova has symbolized a uniquely American blend of old-world craftsmanship and new-world innovation. Today, more than 120 years later, Bulova is one of the worlds most recognized brands, and still wholly U.S. owned and operated. Bulova is dedicated to upholding its legacy of creativity and excellence, reaching new heights in classic American tradition. The new Millennia Collection, for example, harnesses the energy of motion from the wearer's arm to power the quartz watch. Normal movement causes a micro generator to spin. The oscillation produces electrical energy, which is stored in rechargeable power cells. Since this rechargeable power cell can be repeatedly charged and discharged, periodic replacement is not necessary. The rechargeable power cell is completely free of mercury and other hazardous substances. Another fine example of bulova engineering is the solar watch which features an innovative solar cell that converts light into renewable electric energy. Power is stored in a clean energy battery free of any toxic substances. Once fully charged, the watch will run for approximately six months without further charging.
